The Balzac Achievers
The Balzac Achievers was a very totally incredibly excellent band that existed in 1991. The incredibly amazingly talented band members would drink as much coffee as possible, then charge into Heudnsk Studio -- whereupon they would put together the music, lyrics, noises etc in less time than the running length of the songs themselves! Amazing!
Members included Barnacle Bill, Stiff Ray, 10-Inch Ted, "Mike Nardone" and a revolving cast of other highly trained musicians. The band's greatest most lucrative hits were "Maggie" and "Girl from Lancaster" (which was a postmodern deconstruction of "Girl from Ipanema.") The band was dedicated to 19th century French novelist Honore de Balzac, who drank himself to death with coffee -- 60 cups per day.
Here's a brief MP3 taste of their greatness, with a short intro by "Mike Nardone"!
